Mechanism of Action
Lincomycin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit, preventing peptide chain elongation. It is primarily bacteriostatic but may be bactericidal at higher concentrations.
Indications
Lincomycin Injection USP 600mg/2mL is indicated for the treatment of serious infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:
Severe respiratory tract infections
Skin and soft tissue infections
Bone and joint infections (osteomyelitis)
Septicemia
Postoperative infections
Infections caused by Gram-positive organisms
Side Effects
Possible side effects include:
Diarrhea
Nausea
Abdominal pain
Injection site irritation
Rash
Rare cases of pseudomembranous colitis
Precautions
Monitor for signs of antibiotic-associated colitis
Use cautiously in patients with hepatic or renal impairment
