Mechanism of Action
Oxytocin stimulates uterine smooth muscle contraction by binding to oxytocin receptors in the myometrium. It increases intracellular calcium levels, leading to rhythmic uterine contractions essential for labor and postpartum uterine tone.
Indications
Oxytocin Injection BP 10 IU/mL is indicated for:
Induction of labor
Augmentation of labor in cases of uterine inertia
Prevention and treatment of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH)
Facilitation of uterine contraction following delivery of the placenta
Management of incomplete or inevitable abortion (as per clinical protocol)
Side Effects
